子曰：「道千乘之國，敬事而信，節用而愛人，使民以時。」

子 zǐ Master 曰 yuē said ： 「 道 dǎo govern 千 qiān thousand 乘 shèng chariots 之 zhī 's 國 guó state ， 敬 jìng respect 事 shì affairs 而 ér and 信 xìn trust ， 節 jié economize 用 yòng expenditures 而 ér and 愛 ài love 人 rén people ， 使 shǐ employ 民 mín commoners 以 yǐ according to 時 shí seasons 。 」
